'Universal Solider' Recording Session Notes

To John Waite Fans Everywhere,

In the past few days, we have received questions from all over the world from regarding the recently released John Waite bonus track on iTunes, ‘Universal Soldier.’ Many of those questions have come from John Waite fans, so we thought the official John Waite website would be an appropriate place to provide some facts about ‘Universal Soldier.’ We want to make it clear that some of the questions we received can best be answered by John and his management. But, there are a few questions that we can address here:

We are huge, life-long, John Waite fans. It was truly an honor to work with him. John is an extraordinary singer and a truly moving artist.

My twin brother Marc and I are producers and songwriters. We own and operate The Pop Machine, a recording studio in Indianapolis and have been involved making or producing music all of our lives.

Our meeting John came through a mutual friend and via the House of Blues/Shade Tree Womens’ Shelter show in Las Vegas that John hosted for several years.

John wrote all the lyrics for ‘Universal Soldier,’ of course! With input and guidance from John, the music was written by Marc and I with Joey Fingers who used to sing in a band called Transmatic (www.myspace.com/transmatic).

There is a stellar cast of musicans on the track including Kyle Cook (Matchbox Twenty) on guitar, Kenny Aronoff (Dylan, Mellencamp, Fogerty) on drums, Adam White (Wonderdrug, Tiffany) on loops, me on bass, and Marc on guitar. All of us are Hoosiers from the great state of Indiana; however, Debby Holiday (www.debbyholiday.com), a remarkable talent from Los Angeles, added the soulful harmony vocals.

We co-produced the iTunes version of‘Universal Soldier’ with John.

Universal Soldier was recorded at Henson Studios www.hensonrecording.com in Hollywood and The Pop Machine.

We want to thank the John Waite fans who have given us so much encouraging feedback on the song. For those of you who bought the ‘Downtown Journey of a Heart’ in a store, we hope that you will buy ‘Universal Soldier’ on iTunes. We are also asking you to please review the song, the reviews on iTunes have been positive and we hope to keep that going. We really appreciate all the support!

A big thanks to Crissy for her tireless effort making johnwaiteonline.com such an amazing website filled with fantastic JW content and a lively forum – kudos to you!

All the best to John Waite fans around the world!

Eric Klee Johnson
